RAISING WITCHES by Ashleen O'Gaea

Teaching The Wiccan Faith To Children

$13.99

Essential Information for Raising Children in the Craft

This is the first book that gives parents the means to teach their children Wicca in a more formal fashion than just "having a chat with the kids" around the kitchen table -- without losing the spontaneity and natural ways that led them to the Craft in the first place.

Featuring a Wiccan curriculum for each of the five age groups from infancy to young adulthood, O'Gaea shows parents how to effectively weave Wicca into a child's natural progression of learning.  She presents age-appropriate activities for learning, such as the use of herbs and essential oils to soothe a fussy baby and using totems to instruct toddlers about animals and the natural world.  For those interested in creating more formal learning environments, Raising Witches offers a variety of sample lessons, structure, and a prototype for readers who want to develop "Sun Day School" or "Moon School" classes.

Wiccan parents, who wish to raise their children in the Craft but have hesitated because they lacked guidance, will find Raising Witches to be the book they have been searching for.  Pagans following other traditions will find it easy to translate Raising Witches into "Raising Asatruar" or "Raising Druids."  The book also includes, charms, spells, songs, guided meditations with practical ideas for other educational activities, and a glossary.

The combination of sound child-raising ideas, O'Gaea's training as a teacher, and examples from personal and community experience with traditional interpretations of Wiccan principles gives this book exciting, fresh perspectives.  O'Gaea also introduces and explains the concept of Regency Parenting, an exciting new Pagan-sensitive approach to raising children in which emphasis is taken off parental power over children and is placed on the importance of helping children grow and reach their full potential as adults.

Ashleen O'Gaea and her husband, Canyondancer, have been educating the public about Wicca since 1986.  In 1988, they were among the founding members of the Tucson Area Wiccan-Pagan Network.  In 1991, they founded Campsight Coven, through which they have created and distributed several educational fliers.  They have also developed the Adventure Tradition of Wicca.  In June of 2000, O'Gaea was one of five founding board members of Mother Earth Ministries - ATC, a Neo-Pagan prison ministry for which she is the senior corresponding Priestess.
